Nazar Kulchytskyy & Partners Law Firm has become a partner of the “Military and war crimes” session at X Criminal Law and Procedure Conference.
The event is annually organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association. The conference took place on October 19, 2023, while the session started at 3.40 PM and lasted until 5 PM.
At the session, Nazar Kulchytskyy, the founder of Nazar Kulchytskyy & Partners Law Firm talked about the problems of imposing sanctions in Ukraine. In particular, his speech was focused on:
- ▪ the problems caused by the lack of mechanisms to freeze the assets which are to be seized in favour of the state;
- ▪ establishing a connection between the sanctioned person and the assets in Ukraine;
- ▪ protecting the rights of the third parties during the application of sanctions;
- ▪ the ways to address the problematic aspects in applying sanction mechanisms;
Apart from the sanctions and their application, the session brought up topics on:
- ▪ Defence of judges, lawyers, and prosecutors involved in the consideration and investigation of war crimes;
- ▪ Protection of the interests of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
- ▪ Confiscation of Russian assets and protection of the rights of other co-owners.
- ▪ Conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV): response mechanisms and challenges.
- ▪ Ukraine’s experience in responding to and combating cases of CRSV.
